My father has an old outboard that has been sitting in his garage for about 15 years. It was his fathers. It is a sea king, and it says 5.1 cubic inches. I couldn't find any numbers at first glance. What kind of motor am I looking at? I am thinking about restoring this motor as a winter project. What are some of the first steps I should do. Thanks for any info!<br />Darren

Step one is to get a manual. That will help you figure out exactly what you have, and what parts to order. Do a internet search under 'sea king outboard' and find a book that covers the old eggbeater. I'm sure you'll need an impeller for starters. Good luck!

Get some number off her. Transom mounting plate or look at the freeze plugs on the block. Take those number to www.aomci.org and hit the "Ask a Member" board and they will tell exactly what you have. It's an OMC engine and all the parts are out there...

What I'd do first is to take out the spark plug and make sure the thing turns over. Then after you get the manual.... I'd work to get fire on it, then work on the fuel system.
