My 1983 Albe/ VP 5.7/260/350, is a work in progress. I've got it running really well now. My question is, are there any benefits or negatives to running in a tank under no load, during the winter months. Is there a carbon build up under no load? Is it less than good to run at idle or above for, say a half hour once a month. Maybe just put to sleep and wait till spring?

I don't get nearly enough time on the water, and I love hearing it run.I don't mind draining and winterizing . The boat lives in a time warp in my barn, in fact my wife and I are thinking of moving in there. Is it a good idea to run it, rather than it just sittin there till we move to our new digs in Maine. Is it less than a good idea to run it with no load?

Not a good idea to just run them without a load for a few minutes. You don't build up enough heat in the engine and it keeps building up condensation. Winterize it properly, and let it set over the winter. Your tinkering with it only makes you feel better, does nothing for your engine.

I took mine out under load 3 times this week. We had some nice 70 degree days with no wind. Move to a warmer climate if you want to run your boat year round.

Bremen, On rt 32, we bought 3.5 nice acres with an old home (1840) it's still live able. We'll spruce it up. Build a barn for boats etc. Live in our RV. Will be three miles from Round Pound. Still spend winter in Va. My wife lived in South Bristol near Christmas Cove back in the 70's and 80's.

Thanks Don, that was the kind of definitive response I was looking for.
