I am starting my shopping list for repairs that I am going to do over the winter. What I know that I am going to tackle is replacing the trim sensors. What should I be prepared to check and replace while tackling this?

replacing those is no fun. There is a bolt and bracket above the u-joint bellows that is near impossible to reach without disassembling the outer portion of the transom shield/assy. If your bellows' are old, be prepared to replace them as well

it is possible to replace the trim senders without disassembling the entire bell housing/bellows assembly. you don't even have to pull the drive, however you do need the right tools.

for someone who has never done senders before you should be prepared to disassemble everything up to and including the bell housing

going that far you may as well replace all the bellows, the water passage hose and the shift cable

this provides an excellent opportunity to inspect your gimbal bearing and engine coupler as well

so what's it not doing for you. looks like ya have a 1 drive? my trim sensor on my 1 drive is located inside the boat. it's a big long cylindrical thing that has a shaft that spins. the screw threads of it send the info to the helm gauge. is that the kind you have? got a service manual? anyway ya look at it. yer gonna need one. diy sticky at the top of the i/o forum. #9, pic yer manual.
the part ya'd be going after if yer talking bellhousing is the trim limit switch. which always fails on a 1 drive best i can tell. i've got two. both failed. trailer works though. on both. so ya just use a little judgement when yer trimming...
op. which one ya going after?

The wires are all rotted where they go through transom.
