Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone has had thier boat shrink wrapped and stored it outside all winter. How did it hold up and how much did it cost you? I'm debating this over tossing an older car of mine outside for another rough michigan winter. Thanks.

Cheeze

Re: Winter shrink wrapping

This will be my fourth year of shrinking the boat and leaving it outside. I'm in upstate NY, so our winters are very harsh too.

My boat guy charges as follows (I'm filling out my service order today): Shrink wrapping $6.75 per foot for <23', $7.75 24'-30', and $8.75 for >30'. Outdoor, secure, storage on blocks is $11 per foot. Hauling is $6 per foot. Bottom wash $3 per foot. Full engine winterization, incl pulling the outdrive, is $133. Nice thing is he takes it from - and returns it back to - my slip. It's like it never leaves the marina.

Never had an issue with moisture or anything. Definitely take all soft goods off boat, clean ALL surfaces very well, get it dry prior to wrapping (can be challenging), and put two large plastic tubs full of lump charcoal down below. I also use a few smaller tubs of damp-rid or similar for the engine room.

One option is to have him install a zipper door in case you need to check on things mid-season.
