Just a quick question. In reguards to winterazation, I drained the water out of the block (4.3L Merc) via all the blue drain plugs. Changed the oil and filter, gear lube, fuel stabil. Will what I did for the water in the block be sucfficiant for the winters in central Georgia? Or do I REALLY need to do the anti-freeze thing. Freezing temps dont happen often and when they do it is only for a few hours before it gets back into the 50's or 60's for the day. Thanks

I think you did enough, cause you don't get any freezing period do you? Up here right now it is 28F, so we gotta winterize the blocks...you will be fine<br /><br />Belchy

Unless you get frost for more than a few hours, it seems like you should be fine.<br /><br />No offense, but you do realise that name of yours can be read several ways? Tim'stahoe, Tim's Tahoe, Tim's the hoe'... :eek:

This topic was beat to death in the Mercruiser forum at one time not long ago. General consensus is that many, many people winterize dry because air doesn't freeze. Some use antifreeze for 2 reasons...it offers some corrosion protection and it's cheap insurance against missing some water in the draining process. Your geographical location is moot, as it really doesn't matter if the temp of your engine block goes to +31F or -31F in the winter...if water is in your block when it reaches that temp range, it will freeze and when it does it might crack something.<br /><br />So if you're 100% positive that you got every last pool of water out of your engine block and water pump, it'll be just fine without antifreeze. If you're not 100% confident, then the antifreeze fill is your insurance policy.
