Hello all, Thought I would ask this and get some different opinions. What is the right way to winterize my fresh water system on my 2000 Sea Ray Sundeck? It has a 10 gallon capacity.
Drain it and blow it out?
How do I prevent mold growth. Bleach solution?
Any freezing issues?

Thanks Ike

I would do the blow out method if you have to be concerned about mold. Once the tank is dry the mold problem should be gone if the system is sealed.

At the beginning of the next season you could run a bleach solution through followed by a flush and then fill, add baking soda and flush again to freshen up the tank. With each fill the boat should be driven or trailered to slosh the water around the tank in case there are any impurities.

There are different ingredients available from RV stores for this purpose also.

Dirty Dawg,

check these links out, the first one is a quick overview of how to winterize your entire boat. the highlight of the entire page is to consult your owner's manual for specifics to the boat, but its a great simplified document:

for non-toxic antifreeze, you can check out:

or products on this page:

RV stores sell fresh water antifreeze
I think it's made from a food grade poly-glycol
So it can be easily and safely removed after the winter

When referring to the "Blow Out", method, aside from using an air compressor, which I do not have. How can you blow air through the system?
