Winterization Questions

Fellas, I have a 2002 Yamaha 25hp Four Stroke Outboard that was properly winterized last year. I only used the boat once (less than 1 hour) this year, so the gas is still "stabilized" from last year. I recently had some surgery that has left me immobilized. Will last years "gas stabilization" hold over to next spring? I can probably manage to fog the cylinders and carb, and change the lower unit drive oil. The boat will be stored outside, covered in Northern Virginia. Thanks for any help. Ferguson

Re: Winterization Questions

It likely varies depending on the manufacturer of the stabilizer you use. I wonder if the manufacturer lists such info on the bottle?

If it's a portable tank, pour the fuel into the car, if it's still good, if not get rid of it. Mix up a new batch w/ fresh stabilizer in it, run & fog engine. If you can, crack the drain/fill plug on the lower unit, without removing the vent plug, since you say less than 1 hour on engine this year, if no water comes out, & oil looks good, as I expect it should, reinstall drain/fill plug it's OK (only a little bit of gear oil should come out, & as water is at the bottom, it will come out first). With only 1 hour on it you can probably get away with not changing engine oil, & filter, Grease all fittings so nothing siezes up, & remove prop, & grease the shaft, then reinstall prop. Spray WD-40, or some such product over wire harnesses, & connrctors. Do at least that much, you should be ok. Or get a buddy to help, & take him fishing next season. Good Luck, Joe
