I want to have my boat hauled, blocked in my driveway, winterize engine (260 HP Mercruiser), and shrinkwrap it. How do these costs break down and how much do you think I will have to pay for this ?? It will only be hauled a mile or two. The boat is a 23' Cuddy Cabin.

buy a trailer, winterizing is a continuing cost. you can probably by a used trailer for what you can getting it hauled an blocked. they will not shirk wrap, or winterize in your yard. at the dealer use to be $300 winterize, $300 shrink wrap.

TD,

I heard if you leave your boat on a trailer over the winter (winters up here in Boston) then it either warps the hull, or the trailer. Could be just a rumor, or maybe it was being referred to something completely different.

Any word on that?

I'm further North, up in Ontario, Canada. Can't say I've ever heard of any issues. Where I spend my summers, over 150 boats stored on trailers each winter, no issues. Providing the proper trailer to support the hull is used, I see no issues.

2008 SR 205 sport, 5.0 mpi I/o Alpha one merc drive.

$250 for winterize and tune up plus fluids. They change water separator, lube everything and prop shaft, check engine alignment, oil/filter and drive change, bunch of other things. I trail myself there and back (about 20 miles).

As far as trailers over the winter, I have only ever heard of issues with rollers on the less expensive, older boat hulls (bayliners etc..), and boats on improper trailers, but never with bunkers have I heard anything.

i don't know where you heard that, but it is total BS. properly set up trailer, boat can sit on it, until the trailer rust out from under it. if it were so, there would be a lot of damaged boats.

Just read it here and there on BB's regarding "soft spots" from rollers, since they contact so little of a hull at each point. Could be people just dont have them set up properly.

I love these "drive-by" questions. Where are you located and can you winterize it where it is moored? Winterizing prices vary from yard to yard.

It is much cheaper to winterize it yourself. I'm not too sure about I/Os procedure other than replacing all the water with anti-freeze and changing the lower unit's oil. As far as shrink warp, up here, they charge by the foot.

Your avitar shows a HUGE 23' cuddy:).
