Winterize Open System

I used to drain the water from the block and manifolds, but got nervus that some water might be trapped. I want to use anti-freeze; what is the best method to add this? Can I run the engine and suck the antifreeze in? When I see pink water flowing from the exhaust the engine should be full of anti-freeze; is that right?

Thanks for any suggestions on this procedure.

IF you have the ENGINE level, or close to it, and you pull the drains and use a piece of wire to make sure the hole isn't plugged, That's the best you can do. Even if there was water in the block, if you put antifreeze in it, it wouldn't mix, so that would be a false hope. Running a raw water cooled engine in antifreeze is at best a 50/50 chance of working.
What engine are you talking about?

Does anyone have an itemized list for winterizing a bayliner, 2355 ciera 1994.
It was very expensive last year and I would like to do this myself, we live in an area where the temp will drop to minus -15/-20 celceius, Thank you

quickdraw....
here's what I do.

warm the engine up.
fog it out.
pull all the drains.
make sure you stick a small screwdrive or wire into the drains, especially in the manifolds, because they will be plugged up.
pull the bottom of every hose and let them drain. Or, pull the top and use a small air compressor to push everything through.
Fill the block with non tox antifreeze until it starts coming out the drains. quickly put the block drains back in.
Fill the manifolds until it starts coming out the drains, then quickly put in the drains. Keep filling until it comes out of the exhaust.
Fill all the hoses, both block and manifold best you can.
Reattach all the hoses and tighten everything down.
Make sure that if you have a power steering cooler you get that too!!!

On a small block V8, its usually 4 or 5 gallons of antifreeze
Then go on with the rest of your winterization.

Just drain the engine & manifolds & powersteering cooler then you will be fine.. Air dont freeze.

I do it the same way as Capn Jason does, drain everything and then back fill. I put some triple guard grease on the threads of the drain plugs to make em come out easy next time.
