winterize or not

live in ontario canada'



winterized my boat last fall in october....i thought i would have the boat out this summer, but due to personal reasons not getting the boat out in the water....i have not started the boat yet this year....

my ?

do i have to winterize the motor for the winter...



also someone told me that i should atleast start the motor this year so the oil goes around so it does not damage the motor



thoughts anyone

Short answer is yes. This is especially important for you because one of the main reasons to winterize a boat is to prevent damage from under use which it sounds like you have not used your boat for a while.

If you do not do a complete winterization of your boat then atleast make sure you run your engine. If not you get what you pay for. Also insurance policies usually do not cover issues resulting from lack of maintenance.

It is like a car you would never keep a car idle during the winter without running the engine every once in a while.

I would winterize again. I would definitlely start it, but I probably wouldnt change the oil in the engine or leg. I would lubricate cables though. I live in Saskatchewan so the climate is similar.
