Winterized engine, how long can it sit?

Just a quick question, I have an engine, and drive, that were properly winterized prior to storage. Been sitting a long time, but, has been covered, etc.

Anyway...did a quick search, but, couldnt find anything useful.

I need to remove the engine from the boat, after I move it to my new place...

Anyway, thanks for the insight.

Not too worried about it if I have to replace bearings, rings and gaskets. And I KNOW that I should tear it down anyway.... just wondering for speculations sake.

If it was winterized properly it should be fine.

So, my thoughts are correct, that the fog should still be stuck on the cylinders, and all....

Man, it would be GREAT if I could put some fuel in it and it fires....

Think I toasted my 3.slow last time out, and still have a 4.3 and all associated parts from the last boat...just need to re-mount the engine, and align it....

Anyway....anyone else?

Even if I get one season out of it before a tear-down and re-build, that would be great...

The way most of us lay up a motor for a few winter months would probably keep a motor for 10 years.

Depends on how it was stored. You mention it was covered. Hopefully it wasn't covered with plastic or a vinyl tarp. Otherwise, you may have some condensation issues in the engine. Water has a funny way of making it into places it shouldn't. And over the course of the years, corrosion does happen. You say rings/gaskets won't be a problem to replace. That would probably be the worst thing you would have to do, if the winterization was indeed done correctly and it wasn't covered with non breathable plastic or vinyl.
Who knows - it could even fire right up!

For that matter, it has been 11 years....

Second, no, it wasnt bagged or anything. was able to breathe...

Thanks, I was hoping it wouldnt be too bad....

It was winterized according to the factory service manual, etc etc....

Thanks alot....

Going to hook up some fuel, and see if I can get this to kick over on its own before yank it out of my other boat...

Thanks,
