Winterized motor questions - getting ready for first run

Ok, so I bought a 2005 Glastron 5.0L 205GX in February. It was winterized. I'm wanting to get it ready for the water today or tomorrow, so I have a couple questions.

1. New spark plugs? I've read both ways. What are your guys' thoughts?

2. There are some brass plugs that I need to put back in the motor - any guesses where they might go so I don't have to spend an ungodly amount of time looking for them?

3. Manual? Is there a manual for the boat/drive available yet? I'm not very mechanically inclined by nature, but if I have a guide I can do nearly anything. I've looked, but it seems 2003 is as new as they get.

4. Anything else I need to do to get the motor ready for water?

5. Would I be better off taking it somewhere to get it ready for summer fun? I'd really prefer not to, but I would if you guys think it best. I'm planning on winterizing her this fall myself, so I figure I might as well start learning the ins and outs of the motor/drive now.

Thanks,

Do you have a full model number or serial number for your engine?

If the boat is new to you, by all means YES, cap and rotor to. You have no way of knowing if it was done.

Are they threaded? What size?

Need your engine numbers.

4. Anything else I need to do to get the motor ready for water?
Depends on what was done during winterization. Read these two threads and you will get some idea what should be done.

Only you can answer that question. Once you post some engine numbers, we can get you a lot more information for you to decide if you want to fix it or send it out.

Re: Winterized motor questions - getting ready for first run

Just got a chance to get the numbers, but I got the plugs in as well.

VOLVO PENTA
5.0 GL-E
3869254
4012125272

We took it out and it sounded like the gimbal was bad. So I took it in to have that done since I didn't have time to build a stand for it (nor did I want to for the price they charged me - $220 parts and labor).

I just changed the spark plugs today as I had an issue with the boat cutting out after accelerating - but only has done it three times. I'd thought it may be vapor lock, but am picking up a new fuel filter for it today, along with the plug change. I also read a thread about a '02 volvo with the same motor as mine doing this as well and it was a loose ignition wire. So I'll be looking into that as well.

I'd still like to have a manual to reference, though, so if anyone knows of one, I'd love to have a link to it.
