I have an idea will it work my plan is keeping my boat in the water most of the winter and the temps change every day & week warm and then really cold, I was wondering if there is a way to use compressed air to blow most of the water out of the block I have a 318 chrysler inboard if we use air after the water pump tru the block & out the exhaust what do you think might work or not Thanks Bob

Re: winterizeing

First of all are you keeping the boat in salt or fresh water and how cold does it get. If the boat is in the water you want it full of water. This will help it from freezing and rusting. If the outside temp is going down into the low twenties why not just plug in a cheap marine heater. It would have to get awful cold (much colder than on land) to freeze the block if the boat is sitting in the water. Another possibility is a dip stick heater like used on diesel trucks. You only have to heat them up a very little bit to stop them from freezing. If the water around the boat is not icing up than neither will the engine sitting in the water.

Not knowing where you are or how cold it gets, it is tough to say. Blowing air through the engine block will remove some water, but not the majority of the water. So, freeze damage risk will still be quite high.

Since you mentioned the ability to leave the boat in the water year-round, I take it that the water never freezes up? You still run the risk of a cold snap damaging the engine, unless it is properly winterized. Are you generally a lucky person?
