Winterizing-Lower unit lube/Fogging questions.

Hello all. I had a few quick questions about the winterizing process. I changed the lower unit lube and had a question: I drained all the old stuff out, and then pumped in Yamaha lube from a gallon container using their pump insert. Problem was, as I was pumping it in I noticed a lot of bubbles in the see-through tube as it went into the lower unit. Im sure the air will eventually rise to the top, but will I have to add more lube to make up for it? And, if I do "top off" the lower unit, would I be able to add the lube through the top plug rather than removing the lower one? Also, can putting fogging oil through the carbs cause them to "gum up"? I shot fogging oil into the cylinders, but didnt send any into the carbs. Ive heard differing opinions on whether putting oil through the carbs is a good idea. Any ideas? Thoughts? Opinions?? Thanks to all. Pat

It would be a good idea to check the gearlube level before using it next season. That's automatic anyhow. If you find you have to pump in a bit more, here's the least messy method... Burp any built-up pressure by loosening the vent screw. Snug it back up and then take the drain plug out and connect the hose. Remove the vent and top it off. Put the vent screw in before removing the hose.

Fogging oil only passes thru the throat of the carb. It doesn't get into the bowl with the gas. Fogging thru the carb also coats the internal components. On 2-strokes, there's a lot of internal parts that get coated that wouldn't by just oiling the cylinders.

Is there any way to check the level of the lube? I wish there was a dipstick, seriously.

Nope, just the oil weeping out of the level screw with the motor vertical. I check mine every ten hours and change the oil every 50 as cheap insurance.
