I have 3.0 mercruiser alpha one outdrive. I was going to winterize by muffs and a tub with antifreeze and a pump, but now my carb is overloading and pouring fuel into the cylinders. just will not start!! So now I don't want to rebuild the carb until spring and need to know if I take off the hose to the thermostat and the hose to the water pump and pour antifreeze in them until they come out the drain plugs on the side of the engine. Will this keep my engine from freezing. I know you can't guarentee anything But I do appreciate your sound advice>...

Re: winterizing problem

Remove the manifold plug and the block plug and put the drive all the way down.

Let it drain, remove the hoses from the t-stat and engine mounted water pump.

Pour a little af down the long hose that goes into the transom till you see a little af coming out the drive.

Your winterized.

Ayuh,....

You have 1 Drain plug on the side of the block,....
1 Drain plug on the bottom side of the manifold,....
And,...
Possibly a Drain plug in the aft, lower area of the riser....

Pull ALL of them,+ the Big Hose from the circulating pump,...
Make Sure All the water drains out,....

Then,.. You don't need any antifreeze, At All...
