Re: winterizing procedures...for my motor

Getting a motor ready for winter is really pretty simple for outboard motors.

First get some stable and mix with fresh gas and run through the motor for about five minutes ( I also run some sea foam with mine at this time but it is not necessary)

When you are about done with running the stable thru the motor I take and spray Marine Fogging Oil into my carbs as it is running. Then shut the motor off.

I also take out each plug and spray fogging oil into the cylinders and turn the motor over a few times.

The only thing left is to check the oil in the lowerr unit to make sure there is no water in it. I usually change mine in the fall that way I know there is no water in the oil and it has fresh oil for the next fishing season.

Tom, Rick meant to put the correct amount of fuel stabilizer into a fresh 50::1 gas oil mix, and run the motor on the flush device. After a few minutes of running, spray some fogging oil into the carb intake. Now when it is smoking heavily, shut off the motor and remove the flush device and let the motor drain (verticle position) for a few minutes. Now change the lower unit gear lube. I also recommend you pump some grease into the zerc grease fittings and rub some grease on the steering rod. Spray the block with some WD-40 or other corrosion fighter. Now you are done!

There is a thread in the FAQ that covers all of this plus some, good reading.
