winterizing questions

I hav an 84 cimmaron 18-ss with a 350 and berkley jet dirve. when I winterized the engine I did everything I could to open the drain plugs on the exaust manifolds but could not get them to budge. I have the engine drained and that is not a concern of mine. my question is, every time we pull the boat out of the water I start the engine and rev it a couple of times to blow all of the water out of the jet drive. with me reving the engine with the boat is on the railer would that get the water out of the manifolds or should I try something else to get the water out?

Re: winterizing questions

Nope, won't clear the water out. The exhaust is completely seperate of the water passages in the manifolds and risers (at least they better be)
Most of the Jet boats I see have aluminum manifolds and may be why the plugs are froze in them. If you have the water in hose on the fronts of the manifolds or bottom center, you can pull the hose off to drain. If it's an elbow on the front, make sure it's aimed down so the water doesn't stay in the mainifold, and tilt the engine bow down to drain as much as possible from the manifolds if the inlet is in front. Level the engine if the fittings are in the bottom/center of the manifold.

thanks, thats what i was thinking but wasn't sure. I do have the fittings in the front so I will pull the hoses and drain the manifolds that way.

Re: winterizing questions

Chad, You might like to use some compressed air to blow out the manifolds as well. It may force some residual water to exit.

Re: winterizing questions

got another couple of questions. I was not able to get to the boat the other night and get the manifolds drained, and it droped down to about 20 degrees. overnight however after that night it hasen't droped below freezing. how concerned should I be? also I was not able to actually remove the petcocks (sp?) when I drained the engine however I used AF and after I let the water drain I poured af thrugh the engine and I had pure af flowing through. was that sufficent?
