Winterizing?

So I've got my 1985 Bayliner Bowrider Capri, with a Force 125 outboard on it. I'm looking to winterize it, and store it for the long harsh winter so I can snowboard!

Is winterizing your own boat hard? What steps must one take to be absolutely sure that all the water is drained... I can't afford the block to crack because of frozen water. What other things do I need to do other than drain all the water? I'm going to have the boat shrinkwrapped and stored outside behind my father's shop. Any help you can give me at all would be great, it would save me 150 bucks.

~~Garrett

Re: Winterizing?

Garrett,

I live in St.Louis. We get at least 2 full months of sub-freezing temps. I've winterized myself for 7 years. I make sure I can get the bow down and the trailer heading up a slight grade so I can get the lower unit completely verticle. This has always drained all water. Like Roscoe said, I've always heard that you have to pay careful attention to replacing lower unit oil, stabilizing fuel and fogging in the motor.

Ken
