Winterizing

hi everyone, just a quick question, is it okay for me NOT to winterize my engine if i plan on using it over the winter? and what are some of the most useful ways to winterize it? i've heard of completely running it out of gas, basically, letting it conk out on it's own after i pull the gas line, anything else i should be made aware of? it's been sitting idle for about a month now, since i last used it, and i'm not sure if i'll be using it again until probably march/april, maybe even may...but if it ever looks nice out, i'll think, **** , i wanna get out there, thanks, feel free to email me also, scottsusin@yahoo.ca

if you plan on using the boat over the winter, i would add a fuel stablizer, to the fuel tank and then run the boat for about 20 mins on the hose, and make sure you store with the engine down all the way to prevent water from sitting in the lower unit and freezing.

Tom....I wouldn't run the gas out of the carbs, it will cause the little bit that is left to evaporate and leave a residue in your carb bowls, also without fuel in them, parts inside the carb tend to dry out. The best thing to do is to fill the fuel tank, put stabilizer in it and then run the stabilizer through your carbs, 20 minutes or so, like used boats said. If you really are not gonna use it until April or May, I would fog it, just to keep everything protected inside the engine. Fogging keeps it very well lubricated and protects from rust internally. I usually put mine away about now and don't use it until March or April and I always fog it. If you feel the need to go out in a couple of months just blow the fogging oil out into the water and go, fogging oil is not that expensive. If you don't want to fog it just run once a month and you should be alright, but I would definetely get that fuel stabilzer in there. Good Luck.
