I just had the starter and alternator rebuilt in my 87 omc cobra w/gm 3.0L. I would like to replace the ends of the wires (some of the connectors have some rust on them). Should these be brass, stainless steel, copper, and can I get these at the auto parts store or are they different for marine applications? Also, if I need to replace any wires, are they copper and braided or solid. I have no clue, this is my first boat. Thanks alot!

never x 2 use solid wire. marine wire is fine stranded and each strand tinned. tinned copper fittings handle the damp better than plain copper.

I regularly purchase battery cable parts to make up my own cables from a marine supplier like Boaters World, BoatUS or online catalog. I tin the stranded wire ends and seal the cable and connector with silicone and heat shrink tubing, using a heat gun, not an open flame if possible.
