I am currently rebuilding an old bass boat.one of the things i intend to do is re-wire the entire boat as over the years (26 of them)and a few other owners. it now has wires running every which way but understandable. i have clipped off wire ends dangling.splices out the wazoo and plugs which go no where.what im wondering is if anyone knows where i may be able to locate prebuilt wire harnesses universal type would be best in my situation i think.any info or leads would be helpful.

Re: Wire harness

crab must have had a bad day...

i would just pull every wire out and start fresh. run heavy gage wireways to a breaker panel and ground block. then run everything from there. good luck-

Yeah, really. Just rewire it. Its not at all hard to do and really not very expensive to do either. The systme itself is simple and as already described. I'd suggest that you sit down with a large sheet of paper and draw yourself a shape of a hull. Then draw in every electrical device on the boat where it goes. From there draw in the wires you'll have to run and in the color the wire will be. Run all of the positives to either a breaker panel or a fuse block and all of the negative wires to a buss bar. Then connect the buss bar to the negative side of one of your batterys using an appropriately large cable for the full current draw of every device on the boat. The power supply line from the output side of the battery switch will be connected to the breaker panel or fues block by a cable of the same size (often #6 or so) but with a breaker within a foot of the battery switch. That pretty well does it for a wireing system. They are super simple.
