Re: Wire size question for shore power

Careful here- a marine genset should be wired thru a transfer switch and not directly wired to the shorepower.
As far as wire size, it depends on the length of the wire and the maximum generator amperage.

Re: Wire size question for shore power

I think you should get a marine electrician. Too many very small things that can really trip you up. An error on a house panel can be a problem or a fire. An error on a boat can kill you or other people + burn or sink the boat.

Too Many things to think about.

What will be the max load?

How will it be split up?

If 220 what size wire. average answer. ( #6/3 how about what size neutral. average answer # 6 of course. Ok how about this. You have everyting running and have almost maxed out the 2 #6 hot leads. How is the neutral holding up?

Very possible no 220 items are running. Why use a #6 neutral?

Do you have a panel that prevents you from getting more than one source of a/c to the main at one time. ( how about an inverter in the mix. ( I am really just trying to get you to call in the man.
