I have a MinnKota 12V 55# Terrova Power Drive which I need to hook up to a battery. It will be about a 6' run from the plugin to the batt and was wondering if 8 Ga. would be heavy enough for that distance? Thanks
A chart like this is of very little use in selecting the proper wire gauge in a 12-volt power distribution system. In a 12-volt power distribution system the voltage drop that occurs in the wire will always have more influence on the power distribution than will the maximum current rating of the conductor. You need to figure the conductor size based on the maximum voltage drop you can tolerate, not on the maximum current the conductor can carry.
