wireing a 74 johnson in place of an 01

i just bought a 1974 50 hp to get me through the season. i want to take the '01 off and put on the '74 right in its place. i have all the wires and cables for the '74 and everything for the '01 is still on the boat i a want to do this so i can still use the same controls that are in place now but i want to do this without killing myself. i have the repair manual for the 01 and i do not intend to but one for the 74. dose anyone have any good advise , ideas or mabey some kinda conversion diagram or even a diagram for the '74? any help would be much appreciated thanks in advance
