Re: Wireless Doorbell

I have sold a couple of these systems, with good reviews from my customers. Not sure if you could find them in your area, as they need to be purchased through a dealer, whether it's retail or through a distributor.

Re: Wireless Doorbell

We had one on our old house. I don't remember the brand right now, seems like it was a well known name. The only problem was when our neighbors got a new garage door opener.... it would ring our door bell.. I just changed some switches and all was fine.

I am very happy with the one I got at Radio Shack a couple years back.

I move the receiver with me from room to room.

Re: Wireless Doorbell

I'll be watching this thread for info too.

I've got two different systems: the one at my house is a pain because the 9 volt battery in the pushbutton dies much too quickly. The button is not very well protected from the weather, however. It also has a small red light thats on all the time to show that the battery is still good. Maybe that light eats up the battery, maybe it's the lack of protection from the rain, maybe its the brand (I think it's a 'Carlon'). The chimes part is fine.

I also have a wireless doorbell at a rental place I own. Don't know the brand, but it seems to work much better. The pushbutton is on a porch well protected from the weather, however. It takes one A cell battery and I haven't had complaints about it wearing out too quickly. It doesn't have a light to show that the battery is alive.

Not positive, but I seem to recall seeing Broan stuff at Home Depot and Lowes. I took a look at the website sangerwaker linked and one concern I'd have with the system is that the ringer takes an A23 battery instead of a common size. I hate when companies do that!

Give me a common size where I can use one from the megapacks I buy at Sams or Costco for everything else I own that needs batteries.

Thanks for the replys. The one we had came from lowes but was only about $15. Maybe with doorbells you get what you pay for.

Re: Wireless Doorbell

I have an normal wired doorbell but I couldn't hear it upstairs so I had an electronics expert buddy come over with a couple of parts from radio shack (I think it was just a resistor to knock the power down)and wire it in to the old style transformer. Now both doorbells ring at the same time with the doorbell button that was already installed on the front of the house.

The only problem I had is when the new neighbor got one close to mine .. whenever someone would ring their doorbell, mine would ring too. I flipped some switches inside of it and that solved the problem.

Re: Wireless Doorbell

I'm with JB on the Radio Shack door bells.
I have two houses and I use one of these in each house. My main house is a single level, which the original hard wired "chime" type failed. I bought one of the Radio Shack type, that is battery operated. It uses 4 "c" cell batteries, which are good for about 2 years, before the system let's you know it's time to replace them. No wiring is required and the can mount just about anywhere.

My other house is a 2 story/split level type, with in-law quarters down below. The upper, (main level), has the hard wired door bell system.

My oldest son lives in the in-law part and had complained to me that he was missing deliveries for his business, as he could not hear hear the door bell from downstairs.
I got another "wireless" door bell from R/S and that cured the problem.

There are only two downfalls to this door bell system. The first is when the batteries run low, it sounds just like my smoke detectors. Secondly, when you ring the bell, it sounds like you are in a 7-11 store, even though the bells are made in China, not India. :D

...Bob in Calif...
