I have a wireless mouse and noticed that it doesn't hace a roller ball on the bottom. How does think work? Does the reciever triangulate it's position and movement with he little flashing light? The light doesn't flash or anything if I move the mouse, just when I click a button, but when I move the mouse, there goes the curser. This is totally neat :)

The mouse detect movement by minor changes in the surface... I think if you put it on a mirror, it will not work.. haven't tried it myself.

I really like the mouse, and the key board. One less wire is one less to fool with :) Computers have sure come a long way since my old Texas Instruments 994a or what ever it was called. I wonder what NASA could do if they could keep up? Maybe they could actually land a Mars Polar Lander in one piece :D

Hi SoulWinner, thanks for the memory jog, I still have my TI-99/4A, if only TI hadn't tried to hog the software development for the TI-99 this may have been real competition for the IBM PC. It used a 16 bit CPU, plug in expansion cards, sound system, floppy drives, sounds kinda familar doesn't it? My TI-99 setup would cost about $12,000 today and still runs at 1.9mhz. fast in 1980, but today, it's a slug. :D
By the way, they still sell on eBay.

There are some wireless mice that measure movement and you can use in mid air. I saw a review of them in Maximum PC. Others can be optical. I have a load of mechanical mice around here and still went out and bought an optical. Now that the resolution is good, they are great with good response time. I would not use a mechanical ever again. No that old IBM joke email about washing balls is never going tio be pasted down again.

Cr@p, I guess I just told everyone I was a nerd. Yeah, so what I laughed at that email and I used OS/2 so what. :D

SlowlySinking,

I thought it was the Commador 64 the sunk the TI 99/4A. I had the TI and one of buddies had the Commador, and he had way more games and stuff for his than I could find for mine. At least HE didn't have a voice synth for his :D Remember how cool it was to program in Basic?

BTW, it's OK to be a nerd. Nerds and rednecks are about the only ones left now who know how to wear pants :D
