I just purchased a new linksys wireless router. It's the N model, nothing fancy. When one computer is logged onto the internet and another logs on, it kicks the first user off!!!

Anyone ever had this problem?

Re: wireless router

Your computers are not asking for a new IP every time they connect to the wireless router and are grabbing the same IP address. Do a renew IP address on the 2nd computer when it gives you the repair prompt in the IE screen because it got booted out by the other PC.

Re: wireless router

Need more information.

Are these 2 computers hardwired to the router or accessing it via wireless?
Is the router hooked up to a modem? Is it hooked up to the modem through the WAN port?

Did you keep the default settings that the router came with or did you change anything like DHCP address range?

Re: wireless router

This is a broadband/cable provided coax into the cable company provided modem. I then have a cat5a/ethernet cable to a router being used wirelessly.

Ok, now I'm finding out that the boys (this is a rental property) had bypassed the router because of similar issues, which is being used wireless by a desktop computer and an xbox. When one is turned on/connected to the net it will know off a current user. Back to the bypass, One of the boys plugged his ethernet cable into the modem Which worked, however he said if he was downloading something, while playing a game online, etc, the modem would not keep up and would reset.

They think the modem is unable to handle the load. Is this possible? This is just an xbox and one desktop computer, nothing too high tech.

Re: wireless router

So is the modem plugged into the WAN port or into one of the LAN ports on the router?

So no wired connections for the xbox and the computer?

Sorry...the xbox is wired to the router, the desktop is wireless.

The modem is plugged into the "internet" port on the back of the router.

Re: wireless router

So if you log into the admin section of the router, what IP addresses are being assigned to the X-Box and the computer? Are they different?
