Wires getting brittle - Fix?

Noticed my wires are getting brittle in my 1990 90HP Evinrude, just like they did in my old 25HP Johnson. In the old days I blamed it on the CRC that the dealer sprayed all over the engine "To protect it from corrosion". I don't know if the dealer got to this one or not. Does anyone know of a spray that might prevent the wires from cracking any further? While I'm here I might as well ask if there is a spray that would prevent or delay the aluminum corosion that is starting on the heads. This is a fresh water only bass boat.

(Picking up the carb kits tomorrow - thanks for the info guys)

"Inside ever older person is a younger person wondering "What the he** happened"".

Diehard,
I called the tech line at CRC and was told to use their 6-26 to prevent corrosion without making the wire sheathing brittle. This stuff won't bring back your wire damage but it definitely keeps corrosion down to nil. A saltwater used 1991 omc I have still looks factory new und the hood from using it.

I guess you already know the CRC 6-56 will cause the damage you have.

Bill, thanks for the info. No, I did not know they had two different mixtures of CRC. Guess mine got the 6-56 on it. Now to figure out who owes me a wireing harness and coil packs, the boat dealer or CRC Industries. (Lots of luck on recovering - huh)

Sunlight and periods of heat/cooling break-down the insulation, changing it on a molecular level (just like it does to skin, paint, and other polymers).
Nothin much you can do about it,except shield it from direct sunlight, and spray with Armorall, clear acrylic, or silicone.
I had a major problem with the wire harness on an old Merc. It was really bad,and I could not find a new one with the old plug-type end on it. So I bought a used one in a junk yard, cut the plug off, and reconnected all the wires to it. Then,I bought a thing called "Scotchcast" by 3M, available at electrical supply houses. They are usually used to repair underground power cables, and are waterproof, highly insulated and tough as steel. It werked fantastic.
