Green wires are normally ground wires. The grounds help prevent electrolysis.

Wires on my thru hulls?

My boat has 2 thru hull fittings for water intake, one for the washdown and one for the head.

When pulling the hoses from them to pull some antifreeze through, I noticed that both valves have a single wire going to them, green in color. Without any additional info, any ideas as to what these may be for? The marine head has no electronics whatsoever, it's completely manual.

Thanks.

Those are bonding wires that connect all metal through hull fitting below the water line so that they all remain at the same electrical potential. It's about evening out protection from galvanic corrosion. If they aren't connected together some will corrode faster than others.

Its also a good idea to always tie an extra un-used wire or 30# test fishing line to any hoses or wireing to have a handy "fish" wire for pulling future wires etc.

Steve - As was clearly mentioned, those are for bonding. What wasn’t mentioned (but surely implied) is that you should check to make sure they are somehow electrically connected to your battery’s ground (-). They are often connected at a pwr distribution source (i.e. pwr bar in a panel) or, weird as it seems, they may even be connected to the gnd post of the starter on inboards. You should figure it out because you definitely don’t want those wires hanging loose!
