Hi All!!!
I had a crazy idea of wiring in a third brake light. I have a 1988 Bayliner Capri 1950 CX, It is on the EZLoad single axle trailer it came with. I replaced the brake lights with a LED kit but had a crazy idea of buying one of the red LED side marker lights and wiring it into the brake light electrical. Then have it on a little 6 ft cord and attach it to the rear of the boat while trailering, like to the towrope cleat or something. Then when putting the boat in the lake i can take it off and attach it to one of the side bunks or something.
How would you wire this? If i used the wire from one side of the system it would work for braking but wouldn't it flash if i used that sides turn signal?
Thanks for all your input

No doubt there're are a variety of electrical wizards on this board who can tell you exactly how to rig such a system, but first I'd wonder if it would be legal. Just a thought.

There isn't an easy way of doing it right with out a fairly complicated circuit.

You could run a wire from the left brake light into a diode then to your light, and also from the right into a diode then into the light. This would allow for a solid light while the brakes are on, would even give you solid light while turn signals and brakea are being used.

The light however would flash if only the turn signal is on with no brakes.

The problem I see is its just one more circuit to get corroded and create problems. Have you thought about mounting your lights up high on your guide posts?

It can be done, with a vehicle to vehcile converter, it converts the combined brake/turn and isolates so u can run the 3rd breaklight without it blinking. Or just tap it into the either the left or right turn light wire.. and save the money.

Or if your vehicle has seperate break/turn signal run a wire from it to the new lights you want to add, if you want to wire it into the trailer get the 5 way flat and use the extra wire for the 3rd light. and the other end of the wire would tap into the breaklight wire in the car...

That'd probably be your cheapest route, just a thought take it how u want.
