I just got this boat and don't know if the control box ever worked correctly.

I have a Chrylser control box on the boat with keyed ignition. The key starts the boat but it does not kill the motor when turned off. The wiring harness seems to be fine as the boat does start from the key.

What do I need to check for? or how do I wire a kill switch for this motor?

Thanks!

I have read the forum and it seems on Johnson/Evinrudes you can just rig a switch off the cdi and ground it out to kill the motor, that would be fine for me; so it that possibble on my Force?

Any suggestions...

Motor is shut off by grounding the black/yellow wire coming from the switch box.

Re: Wiring a kill switch 50 HP 1987 Force

Can you go into a little more detail here.

I found the yellow black wire. It goes from the interlock switch to the wire block on the engine. What exactly should I do to it so the engine shuts off under a new switch I wire or the key switch.

As a side note here is what I tried:

I noticed my magneto blue wire is wired to the key but not on the wire block on the engine. When I attach the blue wire to the wire block (wire block has piece that makes this a negaitive by connecting to the slot below it) the circuit breaker trips.

The white magneto wire is connected to the wire block but no the key switch, when I removed the blue wire from the key to attach the white it did not solve my problem.

I can try to post pics if you don't understand what I mean when I explained the wiring.

It seems like a simple wiring fix but what do I do to the yellow black to make the motor die when using the key?
