Pontoon has a Red Plug harness and the motor is '76 35hp Evin. with a Black Plug. Does anyone make an adapter? I really don't want to run a complete harness. The motor has a harness, but it's not long enough. Anyone know the simplest way to fix this without changing the boat side harness? Thanks, Bill.

new one on me, i thought all the plugs in '76 were red. easier to change the motor harness. sounds like someone replace the harness with an 1969 harness.

Re: Wiring a "Red Plug" to a "Black Plug" Motor

Had kind of the same problem myself, I picked up a '78 Starcraft at an estate sale last fall with the intention of installing a '95 'Rude I have from my last boat. The Starcraft has a black plug and the 'Rude is a red plug motor, after checking around I was told that OMC changed to the red plug on the '79-'80 models. I was able to pick a red boat-side harness thinking to swap it out, that'll have to wait till warmer weather now. As as far as your situation, I would think changing the harness would make the cleanest installation, if you didn't want to go to that trouble you might be able to just swap out end plugs. Get a shop manual or do an internet search for a wiring diagram.
