wiring diagram for ignition on 1973 135 hp

does anybody have an ignition switch diagram for this beast, it has the 6 prong switch. I just bought a new switch and had marked the wires from the old one, but the terminals are not in the same location on the new one. i think i have the two "M" ones crossed. any help would be great, thanks mike

The Ms connect with the key turned Off to kill the spark. It doesn't matter which M is which. Here are the colors and the letters (and functions)...

Red (might have a purple stripe) = Battery
Purple = Ignition (or Accessory)
Purple with a white stripe = Choke
Yellow (might have a red stripe) = Start
Black (might have a white stripe) = Magneto (it's the ground)
Black with a yellow stripe = Magneto (it's the kill wire and packs a whallop when the motor is running)

The first letter of the function corresponds to letters on the switch. Yours might not have the Choke function. You'd push the key in to choke on some outboard ignition switches. Some switches have separate A and I terminals. Purple would go to the I in this case and you can connect any accessory you want to the A terminal so it goes on with the key (like the radio in your car).
