What specific engine are you trying to work on? Its pretty hard to help with that broad a description. BTW, while there may be some similarlities between engines, assuming that they are all the same is definately not a good idea.
what part of the outboard, and what accessories. their should be nothing connected to the wiring system that is not associated with the motor. radio, lights, etc, is a big, NO NO.
