The fuse box under the dash uses separate wires that also attach at the battery. Not thick cables, just 12ga or 14ga red and black wires. They keep boat systems separate from motor systems because if something goes haywire with a boat system, the motor will still operate independently. That and the motor fusing is designed for the motor alone and adding a bunch of accessories can easily overload it.
If you don't have those separate wires to the battery, you should put some in. You should also put an inline 20 amp fuse for the red wire back at the battery. Each fuse in the block should have fuses of appropriate amperage for the particular use. Generally 2-3 amps for electronics and 5 amps for lights and pumps. 10 or 15 amps for cigarette lighter/accessory plugs.
