Wiring Fishfinder?????

I am installing a bow mount fishfinder on my 92 stratos fish/ski and I have a question about running the power. I have had 2 suggestions: 1) run the pos and neg all the way to the back of the boat and attach directly to the battery OR 2) attach the pos and neg power wires to the pos and neg wires of the bow mounted trim switch. Are there any advantages or disadvantes to doing one over the other? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Why would you have to run all the way to the back of the boat when the fuse panel is at the console. 12 volts is 12 volts wherever you find it but you also need to find ground. There is no ground connection at the trim switch.
