I have traced a lot of engine problems to the wiring harness on my engine (the engine side.) and after cutting and jumping several wires they went away. Now all I need to do in find a new harness.
Does anyone have a source other than Mercruiser? All of the numbers I try to locate come back as NLA with no alternate options. the male end (the good end) is Mercruiser part Number 46996 I need the engine side (female)

it is off of a 1977 250HP 5.7L with standard ing. no electric choke, with a single wire alternator.

Re: Wiring Harness

Make your own. If you have a wiring diagram, just get the proper color code and size. When I first got my present boat, the first year was everytime I went to the boat there was another electrical problem. I then made one up from new 14ga., 10ga and 8ga. for the alternator, pretinned wire. Crimped and soldered and heat shrinked all connections and haven't had a problem with the wiring in years.
Instead of the 10 pin connector plug (which was also bad) I used a terminal block and just matched wires.
Way better and cheaper than the factory harness.
