wiring heat/oil warning lights

I am loosing my hearing and am afraid that at WOT I might not be able to hear the warning horn if it should go off. I would like to wire a LED light in the system that would come on if the system should fail. Is this possible and how and which wires at the horn do I connect to? I have a 1991 Tracker TX17 Tournement with a 1991 40 hp Evinrude. The present warning system is in excellent working condition. I am electrically chalenged LOL can do the basics but need clear instructions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Tom, Normally the warning horn sounds when the sensor detects a problem and grounds the sender wire. As such you could wire a light in parallel with the horn, and when the horn sounds, the light will come on. To wire in parallel, connect the light to the same two wires that the horn is connected to. Ground the overheat sensor on the cylinder head to test the light.

Here is a schematic of how you would add an oil/heat warning iindicator. Radio Shack stores carry a wide variety of indicators you could use for this. In this configuration, if you have an oil injected engine and the alarm beeps on/off/on/off repeatedly for an oil related alarm, the indicator would also flash on/off/on/off. Overheat alarms are typically a steady beep so the indicator be on steady. Less than five bucks will get you what you need. Most discount stores that sell auto parts generally have a few indicators as well but not nearly the selection Radio Shack has. Just remember that the indicator must be 12V.
