My merc 1989 4.3 L I had it out for hull repair, when I reinstalled motor and hooked up all the wiring, It started fine, and everything gauges etc seem ok.
But I do have a tan wire with blue striping near where the wiring connector on the port side elbow is located and I have no idea where this wire gets connected to? and I cannot remember if it in fact was connected when motor was taken out.
Motor runs fine! I searched high and low in the vicinity of the wire end but could not find any possible place where the wire would connect to using it's maximum limits.
I'm thinking that the wire must be for something,
Wiring schematic points to heat sensor, oil reservoir ,(what's that)
heat gauge seems to work fine!
any idea's?

Re: wiring help

Thats for the alarm system. Being an 89, you don't have an oil reservoir.
The alarm wire goes for oil pressure and overtemp. The switches are seperate from the gauge senders.

Re: wiring help

The only T/B wire I could find on my diagram goes from the oil pressure sender to the water temp sender to the warning buzzer. So I guess that is where to start looking, if you have a warning buzzer. Good luck.

Re: wiring help

No, I do not have a warning buzzer !!!
According to Don S he says it is a wire for a warning system! so I will just leave it as a loose end for now.
