First off, I have a 1973 115 hp Mercury SN: 3525706. I bought a new boat side wiring harness and ignition switch. I'm not positive that I know what i'm doing but I do have a fire extinguisher close by.

Im not up to speed on the terminology of the wiring and have different words for what I assume is the same things. I don't know what wire to hook up to what terminal. Listed are the instruction which make no sense to me.... please clue me in on what's what.

So far I think: Yellow wire to S terminal
White wire to I terminal
Gray wire to C terminal
Red wire to B terminal
Orange wire not used
Brown wire to Tachometer (not to switch in any way)
I have 2 terminals that are labeled M, one is ground one is Magneto. The wiring harness guide doesn't say ground or Magneto...
I'll have more questions based on replies, I know I can do this!
Here is where i'm at a loss. Thanks in advance for your help.

To start an outboard the magneto needs to be (edit) removed from ground. To stop the engine the (edit) magneto is grounded. Ground one of the M connections and connect the magneto to the other, it makes no difference which one

You do not use the M terminals on your motor. The I terminal must have power on it, when the ign switch is in the run or start position. The rest of your wiring is correct.

AllDodge, His motor has a battery powered CDI ignition. He has no magneto or ign killer wire to worry about.

I was assuming Battery type....

If your motor is 1979 or older, you will have the battery-powered CDI Ignition. It is easy to tell. You will have a distributor and one coil. An ADI ignition has no distributor and six coils (one coil per cylinder.)

She starts, she runs!

To do list:
impeller
attach Mercontrols
attach Throttle and Shift cables to controls
at least one seat... i guess i could stand?
All the Misc wiring in a boat
Then, the stuff that makes it pretty for the wife.

I'm into this $1000 but have a tandem axle trailer to sell from a donor boat.

Life is good!
