Hey all - installed a Helix 5 and all that’s left is connecting the red and black power wires and a 3 amp fuse. I want to connect it to the unused accessory switch I have but I’m not sure what to do. First picture is the back of the switch panel (bottom left is accessory switch). Second is something I got with the boat paperwork. Any help would be fantastic!

That is the transducer wiring diagram. Has nothing to do with powering the unit.

Red (red) goes to positive (+)
Black (blk) goes to ground (-)

I personally wouldn't power the unit off a switched source of power, but that's just me.

Appreciate the response. Why wouldn’t you put it on a switch?

Do you think I should run the black back to the battery and connect the red to the open switch you see in the picture?

Don’t see the point in running a ground wire back to the battery. Any ground connection in the boat would work.

You can connect to any power source. I just prefer to feed power a dedicated supply for a number of reasons.

Worth exactly what you paid for the information…… In an analog world 30 years ago there might have been some truth in the statement but not anymore. Auto ranging power supplies and surface mount technology have all but put it to bed.

DC current flows from positive to negative. Scratching my head as to how running the ground (return line) to the battery would negate noise on the positive (supply side). Filtering is done on the supply side ;)

Interference is typically caused by a failed or failing component(s) in the charging or ignition systems.

Spark plugs and ignition components where the prime offenders back before resistor plugs and electronic ignitions became the norm. The fix for “interference” is to find the offending component and replace. Line filters and such are just band-aides
