I purchased a new engine side wire harness for my '84 1.6l Sea Drive.

The new harness has a red /purple wire and red wire for attachment to the terminal block on starboard side of motor.

My old harness did not have the red / purple wire , only the red wire for connection to the terminal block.

Do I have the correct harness?

Do the red/purple and red wires attach to terminal block at same location?

What does the new red/purple wire do?

RKwood

The red/purple wire is the 12VDC to the switch on earlier model engines.

c/6

Hooty

Switch for what?

So it doesn't need to be connected anything?

Is connecting to the terminal board @ the same location as red OK?

Thanks for your help!

RKwood

Re: Wiring Question, New red and purple?

It's the 12VDC to the ignition switch. The wiring diagram shows a red wire from the battery to the fuse and the red/purple wire from the fuse to the ignition switch. Don't connect it to anything and see if the starter will engage. If it does, don't connect it to anything. If it doesn't, put it on the same terminal as the red wire and the starter should engage.

c/6

Hooty
