I have a 1985 Evinrude 150XP on a 1992 Javelin Fish/Ski. My concern: My hearing is not good at all. I really need to have an overtemp light. I will not hear the alarm. The VRO os bypassed and not operational, so it would be just the overtemp circuit. How would I go about wireing some sort of light in the system?

Re: Wiring question

Here is a diagram. But basically you go to Radio Shack and buy whatever type of 12 volt pilot light you like. You connect one wire to the "A" (accessory) terminal on the ignition switch, or to the +12 volt connection on any of the gauges. You splice the other wire to the tan wire on the temperature switch on the engine. If the engine overheats, the temp switch closes completing the circuit to ground and the light will come on. It won't affect the overtemp alarm buzzer. Ignore the note regarding "flashing".

Re: Wiring question

Thank you very much. Is the steady horn the overheat and the intermittant horn oil?

Re: Wiring question

Steady horn is overheat. It is triggered by the temp switch on the engine cylinder head.
