Re: Wiring question
It will be fine. Fish finders are not big electrical draw devices. In general very few of the LCD versions draw even an amp, generally more like between 0.5 and 0.8 amps. Also, it is a constant state drain, just the sort of thing your deep cycle batterys are made for. There is one thing however, and it may work to your advantage in a way. At some point you will have depleted the batterys by use of the trolling motor to the point where the fish finder will cut off from inadequate voltage. That will be your signal that its time to go home. Of course you'll have to find your way home without a bottom machine. I don't know about you but I never feel comfortable running back inshore in that shallow water without a depth finder.

Also there is this, and you will have to figure it out for yourself because I don't know if it means anything or not. I have seen electronics sold in which the company said that they would operate within some broad range, like 11 to 32 volts, but then also say not for use in 24 volt systems. I do not know why they would say that (I've seen it with both Raytheon and Furuno gear) other than they might mean that the equipment could stand a spike in voltage that was pretty high but that it could not handel sustained high voltage. That's just a guess though, I really don't know.

Thom
