I HAVE A 1997 BAYLINER WITH A BLOWN 112 HP EVINRUDE. I AM REPLACING IT WITH A 1989 JOHNSON 110 HP. THE WIRING HARNESSES ARE DIFFERENT. THE 97 112 HAD 4 PUSH TOGETHER DEUTCH CONNECTORS THAT WIRE THE MOTOR TO THE BOAT CONTROLS AND GAUGES. THE 1989 110 HAS THE STANDARD RED PLUG CONNECTOR. THE WIRE COLORS BETWEEN THE MOTOR AND BOAT CONTROLS ARE DIFFERENT. IS THERE AN ADAPTER KIT FOR THIS INSTALLATION ?

Re: WIRING QUESTION

I believe the adapter harness is still available. Least it's in the 2004 Parts & Accessories catalog. Any John/Rude dealer should be able to get you one.

Re: WIRING QUESTION

AN OLDER CONTROL BOX WILL NOT WORK. IT IS NOT A CONTROL BOX SET UP. EVERYTHING IS INTERGRATED INTO THE BOAT. THE SHIFT,THROTTLE CONTROL IS BUILT INTO THE SIDE AND THE KEY SWITCH AND CHOKE SWITCH ARE MOUNTED ON THE DASH IN SEPERATE PLACES. MY ONLY CONCERN IS THAT THERE IS TWICE AS MANY WIRES COMING FROM THE CONSOLE THEN THERE IS ON THE RED CONNECTOR NOT INCLUDING THE POWER TRIM WIRES. I HAVE THAT FIGURED OUT AND WORKING FINE. I WILL LOOK FOR AN ADAPTER TODAY. THANKS.

Re: WIRING QUESTION

The adapter part number is 176346. It contains everything you need to adapt the older motor to System Check wiring. If you are using the "VRO", it has to be the 4-wire alarm version. Just count the wires on the back of the VRO.
