wiring under dash

I'm looking for help identifying the various wires that are connected to the bus under the dashboard of my 1990 2651 Sunbridge. I plan to hook up a GPS unit and need to know how to connect the black and red wires. I presume most boaters with GPS on the dash have them connected to the bus underneath, but with all these wires I'm not sure where or how to connect them. There don't appear to be any extra slots on the bus to connect accessories.

Can anybody help me sort out this jumble? Many thanks.

Re: wiring under dash

my take on it is the red wire with the yellow fuse holder is the main feed from the battery, all of these connection are the postive feed , does it have a buss bar for the grounds also, you can add another fuse panel and feed it off one of these connections, and transfer the wire you use to the new fuse panel. grounds can piggy back on the ground buss bar. or you can just simply splice into one of the wires on a the present fuse holder, and piggy back the ground.

this actually belongs in the electrical forum.

All positives? Good thought. I will have to take a look to see where the grounds are connected.

Thanks.

To identify which wire feeds what, pull the fuse that's in line with each fuse and see what doesn't work! It appears as though there is a ground binding post at the right end of the fuse panel. I see several black wires in that area.

Don't think you need to identify what each wire does to connect the red & black for the GPS. Use a volt ohm meter to identify the + or red and the - or black on the fuse panel and connect the GPS accordingly. Should take less than 5 min. Make sure that the GPS has its own in line fuse.

Agreed, but I think he wants to know what each fuse is for as they are probably not labeled.

Re: wiring under dash

I checked it again today and found what appears to be another fuse bus to the right of the one in the previous photo. This one has different connecters, but it looks like there are a few empty spaces. Wonder if I could hook the GPS up to this bus?

i don't see why not, connect your positive wire to one of the screws, and put the proper fuse in. ground to common ground.
