I'm trying to plan a bachelors party for my little brother.

I have a concept of an idea but I need to find the place to do it.

Does anyone know of a place in WI/IL/MN that I can launch my boat, and go camp on a beach overnight? I'd like to take all my stuff with me for the night and just chill on an island somewhere.

Thanks in advance!

Look on this site:

http://www.activecaptain.com/index.php

You look at a map, and people put points of interest on there. They will tell yo u where good anchorages are, and cool hangout spots.

What i did, when i wanted to do what you want to, I found islands on the map, and just went to them, and checked them out. And picked a good island to camp on, where no one will bother you.

Most islands are owned by someone.

Look for a place with no houses in sight.

Any of the sand bar islands along the Mississippi between Red Wing and Prescott, MN, and the Island at Husdon, Wisconsin just north of the I94 bridge on the St Croix River. Kinnickinic State Park on the St Crois River about eight miles north of Prescott, Wisconsin on the St Croix River. You need a Wisconsin park pass/camping permit at that site. Be certain you understand channel markers. Get on the wrong side of a bouy and you can go from a guaranteed nine foot channel to a wing dam in a heartbeat.

Turtle Flambeau in Wisconsin might be the perfect place. It's all free island camping and fun as heck if you like that kind of thing. A few things though:

1) you have to get there during the week if you want a good campsite because they go quick as Thursday/Friday rolls around. No reservations allowed.

2) you have to pack in everything with your boat, firewood included. Only scavenging is allowed on the sites. Chopping or cutting anything even dead is not permitted.

3) invest in a LAKE MAP for sure. This huge body of water is a flowage and there are hundreds upon hundreds of stumps and rock bars. I've been out there where the water is 60' deep but there are old tree's just three feet under the water. Over pack on your boat - fuel, props, tools just in case. Btw you're not completely secluded - about 20 minutes away by boat up the flowage towards the dam there are small bars where you can get supplies if need be and catch a hot meal.

4) if you like fishing and the idea of being away from it all this is the place. Again - get there early to secure one of the better island camp sites and enjoy. The one we had last time had it's own natural cove where we caught Flambeau Football Bass all day long in the sun. It was unreal fun. Fish and hang out all day, drink and party all night.
