With or without a boat cover?

I usually trailer my boat without the boat cover on. However, I had to bring it to a location where it is very dusty and will not be covered under an awning or garage so I wanted the boat cover on to help keep it cleaner. I have seen some guys trailer with the cover on but not many. Is it bad to trailer while covered? Maybe it would be a good thing to cover it and increase MPG. What do you think? Any advise?

That's what I was thinking. Thank you for your input. The cover is old and has been patched up a bit but it is all thick canvas and the patch work is amazing from a friend of mine that does that all the time.

Cover on reduces drag a lot, and nothing blows out to sit by the interstate for a year. Just make sure it is a good, trailerable cover and soundly tied down.

If it doesnt fit snugly it will tend to rip. Some people twist the straps a few times to minimize fluttering. make sure any buckles - fasteners dont rub against your gelcoat.. A TD Penny? WTH is that? Aluminum it sounds like. Nevermind.

For me it depends. Long trips were we are carrying fishing gear and vacation supplies in the boat we cover it. Short trips, no cover.

I tow with mine on but, my family has been in the canvas and awning business for years so I knew how to make a towing cover. I just added webbing, fleece and better clips and off I go down the road.

If it's made outa good material, stitched'n topstitched, reinforced, vented, tied down well, and fits. Go for it.

Twisting the straps is an old trucker trick. Works on bimini straps too.

Be interesting to hang a camera back there'n then get out on the interstate. Probly tell you everything ya need to know.

I happen to be in the canvas & cushion business myself and few things make me happier than seeing a boat with an ill fitting cover flapping down the road. Or someone towing @ 70mph with the bimini up. Always puts a big smile on my face ...

I only cover when trailering as needed (same as above fishing gear or camping gear in the boat). Otherwise it's rubbing on the gel coat and stressing out the cover.

thank you all for the input. TD Penny... haha never heard of that either til I bought the boat. It was build in GA but that business has since been desolved. It is a fiberglass boat. Very similar to a Mako.
