I've removed and in the process of cleaning my carbs. The manual I have say to remove the fuel inlets and remove the filter screens (not needed or recommended by Mercury). Is the inlet pressed into the throttle body? How do you get it off, and back on correctly (tight and sealed)?

Thanks,

Jeff

Seems not to be a lot of info on these carbs as they only had a 4 year run. When I rebuilt mine, I never bothered removing the tubes, as I didn't want to wait for new ones if I buggered them up. It was a real pain in the backside getting the parts for them. I 'THINK' they are threaded in though from the look of things.

I'm leaving them in, and just cleaning them out real well (blow out from the float side). I'm also replacing the float/needle and seat with new. The original floats look like garbage! They're foam surounded by thin plastic, and the corners are worn. The needle and seat have a rubber tip wich could easily cause my surging problem if they stick.

I'll reply if they fix it.

Yeah, definately replace those floats and the needles and seats. In fact when you get the floats they will come with new needles and seats. There is a little note in the package that states you must replace them both. I had no end of problems with mine until I changed them.

Be careful pulling the pins out that hold the float in place, they do not come with the new float kit. Neither do any of the gaskets. The small copper washer goes into the seat. I didn't realize there was a washer in there already and put the new one in, then couldn't figure out why the seat sat so high. The old washer is a pain in the backside to get out too.
