I just got Michigan Wheel "Apollo" 14 1/8 x 19 for my 150 evinrude. I got it for 150 bucks(New). I put the hub in it and bolted it on the motor. When I spin the prop by hand I can see wobble in the area after the blades. The blades are straight, the core is straight all the way to the end of the blades. My question is this ok? Will this hurt performance? Will it hurt my lower unit? Does a brand new prop (Michigan Wheel) have wobble normally? I got it off EBAY. And lastly, no, my shaft is NOT bent. I have had 3 other props on it with no movement(in the last month).

Re: wobble in my prop

NO wobble is acceptable, especially on a new prop. Michigan is a reputable company and stands behind their products.

I recently bought a Ballistic prop. Same problem, wobble on the shaft. I noticed that the rubber hub was off center in the prop. I took several photos showing the obvious defect and sent them to Michigan. Their QA and customer service agreed with me and told me they would send a new hub (my request--- they wanted to replace the hub themselves but I didn't want to mail the prop back)

After a month, I still had received no hub and upon questioning was told the last shipment was defective. I just received confirmation that a new hub was shipped UPS.

SO: Even brand new props can have defective hubs. If you have proof that you bought it new and it is obvious that it has not been used, you might want to do what I did, contact Michigan, and see if they will repair it.

sounds like he has the plastic hub, I will also bet he did NOT torque it to the proper spec.
just me.

Re: wobble in my prop

Thanks guys for the responses. I would still like to hear more from you all out there.

In response to the statement that I didn't torque it down and I have the plastice hub: 1) I have a brand new rubber hub from solas(used 2 times on another prop) and 2) torquing won't affect the wobble of the prop if the entire prop is straight except for the last inch of it. Gentlemen please understand me here, the prop is perfect except till the area after the blades. Then the hub area has an out-of-round wobble to it when I spin it. But the rest of the prop is straight. If the hub is not in right, then the whole thing will wobble (wobble will start at front and increase to the back). I want to know if the out-of round is acceptable.

I would love to hear your input.Especially if you have run a prop like this before.:)

Then you have a defective prop. Either the casting itself or the machining (if done on that model) is not correct. The hub should be perfectly circular from front to back. Whether or not it runs true, that is, if the blades do not have run-out, if it were my prop, I would contact the manufacturer.
